The Federal Trade Commission said Thursday it is suing to block Microsoft’s planned $69 billion takeover of video game company Activision Blizzard, saying it could suppress competitors to its Xbox game consoles and its growing games subscription business.

“While we believed in giving peace a chance, we have complete confidence in our case and welcome the opportunity to present our case in court,” Smith said.

Smith said Microsoft has been committed to addressing competition concerns and brought proposed concessions to the FTC earlier this week. The goal is to “not allow dodgy deals and not accept weak settlements,” said Kovacic, who was a Republican commissioner appointed in 2006 by then-President George W. Bush. But he said trying to block this acquisition could trigger a legal challenge from Microsoft that the company has a good chance of winning,

So Sony is the only company allowed to lock games behind a console purchase? Even if that was what Microsoft had planned with this aquitsition (which it isn't) I don't see an issue here lol.

InternetofWords Ruh roh Shaggy!

Thank god

This is dumb. Amazon is still in business aren't they? Isn't that an actual monopoly?

Of all the times you try and stop a merger, it's Microsoft taking over one of the worst gaming companies out there? Who would this purchase not benefit?

Neither activision nor blizzard make consoles? Blizzard technically has a subscription, WoW, but its not at all comparable to a multi-game platform like gamepass. I mean sure, block that merger, those rich clowns can go suck one, but how is this a monopoly

The sex number

Microsoft stomped alot of game development studios. They all ended in dvelopment nirvana. They have a record of buying competitors and then dismantle them. FTC is doing the right thing.

Nice

So they blocked a sale that would make a USA company the largest in the world who’s only competition is the foreign company located in Japan, Sony. Good job on screwing the American worker, again!

So when are you going after Sony for buying Bungie or Nintendo for having exclusive rights to have Pokémon on there platform? Who’s FTC heads son has a PS4/5 and complained about this to you?

Good

FTC on a political grandstanding hit-job wasting tax dollars on a losing case HARMING American consumers VALUE, American workers UNNION NEUTRALITY, and against American companies COMPETING with Japanese companies that are dominating the market with anti-competitive practices

The FTC can SMD

So you're going to stop an American company from purchasing American IP back from China?

Good, now take care of live nation/ticket master

FTC will lose another case. She has never win

Oh ok, ain’t like you guys have’nt been in M’s pockets for awhile now 🙄

sad but based

Haha, so there’s like one lawyer at FTC who is doggedly insisting on playing CoD on Playstation and reliving his glory days of posting during the Console Wars.

Now do Kroger/Albertsons

Finally FTC steps up against these massive mergers

So why allow Disney to buy Fox or similar stuff but this just won't be greenlighted?

ryan42thompson KyleChapman6

nice

Really FTC? Like America isn’t built off of monopolies. More pathetic gov regulation

NOOO WHAT ARE YOU DOOING MICROSOFT IS GONNA FINALLY RID BLIZZARD OF ITS FRAT BOY CULTURE AND YOUR COCK BLOCKING IT NOOOOO

Hilariously bad timing after the Nintendo deal dismisses the concerns entirely. Well played FTC 🤣

No one cares we put part of the American union first today. Too busy celebrating. 🥳

If the takeover doesn't work the first time, just unplug it and plug it back in. Usually does the trick.

My trans sons use to play call of duty before they transitioned but won't play it anymore because they refuse to be inclusive towards trans people now.

So Sony can make games exclusive but Microsoft can’t?
