The South African Canegrowers Association has written to Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana ahead of the February Budget, calling for the sugar tax to be scrapped altogether.
Previously the Miniter proposed increasing the health promotion levy from R2.21 to R2.31 per 100g of sugar. The industry insists there is no evidence the health levy has had a positive impact on obesity levels in the country.
So it means a 2kg brown sugar which as it stands at R35 - R42 can go down as much as R10 - R15? Yes?
The farmers cries are reasonable especially cause we don’t have a quota on our imports which makes imported sugar cheaper affecting our local market prices drastically…
It must be scrapped. I'm paying R25 for a 2L of coke
