of Broward, along with Gold Standard, United American Moving, Razor Van Lines, US Pro Moving and Logistics, Executive Van Lines, National American Van Lines, Imperial Moving Group doing business as Simple Path Moving, Spartan Moving and Storage, Southeast Holding and Southeast Holdings.
According to the complaint, the companies referred their customers to third-party movers with subpar quality and refused to provide refunds. “The defendants promised top-quality moving services, but instead provided shoddy work, higher-than-advertised prices and loads of headaches for people simply trying to relocate,” Moody said in a news release. “We are taking legal action to shut down this moving scam and recover funds for the hundreds of consumers harmed by this company’s deceptive practices.”
According to the complaint, the companies were not actual movers, but they took deposits from customers before even identifying the mover that would perform the job. The companies promised these deposits would cover 30% or more of the moving costs, but many customers found out later the moving costs were much higher than anticipated, in some case double the estimate, according to the complaint.
“The Gold Standard Enterprise hides its unfair and deceptive tactics by using a myriad of companies when in fact it operates a single call center that has posed as numerous companies during the relevant time period and continuing as of the filing of this action,” the complaint stated.
