Judy Scott-Goldman, the spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion, says the drilling would be damaging to businesses and people earning their livelihoods.

“There are people earning their livelihoods, maybe they are not wealthy, but at least they are their bosses. “South Africa has been shown research that showed we have huge potential, we have like the highest solar radiation rates in the world, we have tremendous potential. There is absolutely no reason why we need to go down the route of oil and gas.

“Why do you want to train South Africans for jobs in oil and gas when the transition is moving in the other direction? Peter Benjamin, a Muizenberg resident from the People’s Health Movement, said he was terrified of what would be left of the planet if the exploitation continues.“I’ve got two children, one aged 17 and one aged 21. I don’t think the planet they will live on will be anything like I’ve enjoyed for the past 50 years of my life.

ThePeoplesPost In return, these rigs also supply EMPLOYMENT

ThePeoplesPost

ThePeoplesPost They serve as hunting grounds for swift, open-ocean pelagic fishes, such as mackerel, tuna, jacks, and sharks. Each platform seasonally serves as critical habitat for 10,000 to 20,000 fishes, many of which are of great recreational and commercial importance.

ThePeoplesPost The attached plant life and stationary invertebrates attract mobile invertebrates and fish species, and thus form a highly complex food chain. Petroleum structures provide niches for countless animals.

ThePeoplesPost Certain rigs will literally let you tie up directly to the rig. Fishing right against the structure. Others will not let you get within 1/4 of a mile radius. Plants and invertebrates attach to petroleum platforms only weeks after the platforms are placed in the marine environment

ThePeoplesPost And They all pitched up in their BMW's and Merc's or even a mini bus or two..... Would love to see their homes with.... No water supplied by fossil fuels and products produced by fossil fuels......

ThePeoplesPost I take it all the loons walked to the protest ? 'Cause you know...they are soooooo against fossil fuels 🤣...

ThePeoplesPost Enemies of humanity

ThePeoplesPost They are not right, these people. Why would you platform them? Your agenda sucks. We need to drill as much as we possibly can.

ThePeoplesPost Environmental fascism - what is killing Africans is not 'fossil fuels' it is poverty and underdevelopment and it has been around centuries of colonial exploitation it is not some new development caused by global warming. EFFSouthAfrica helenzille
