space at Oakland’s Market Hall, chef-owner Tolsma and managing partner Pete Sittnick will open Acre Restaurant for dinner service beginning Monday.

“It’s exciting to take on such a historic location,” Tolsma said.” I think our position in the neighborhood gives us an opportunity to interact with guests in ways other restaurants don’t have. There’s that component of being on a corner that intertwines with the community.” Chef Dirk Tolsma will open Acre Restaurant at 5655 College Ave. in Oakland on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022. Pictured is the former Oliveto restaurant, which closed earlier this year.The two-level restaurant is expected to offer a casual bar setting downstairs with an all-day menu while the upper level will have a cozy dining space with sweeping views of Oakland.

The restaurant will begin with daily dinner service for now and eventually offer a lunch menu sometime next year. Acre's California- and Mediterranean-inspired menu will offer salads, whole roasted branzino as well as ribeye steak and rotisserie chicken, which is expected to be a fixture on the menu. Loaves of bread from Berkeley-based Starter Bakery will also be served at Acre.
