“There is a correlation between the two, absolutely. Theft is an ongoing issue. But the intensity actually does increase when food prices go up,” he said, noting that meat and dairy products are the top two stolen items.“If you see both food prices go up and … the economy slows down, jointly that is when you basically see even more stuff.”
“Retail crime, including theft and arson, is sadly higher than it historically has been at Walmart Canada and across the entire retail industry,” she said.Fefer said the company is implementing measures to prevent and reduce theft in order to keep prices low and keep its employees and customers safe.
Kelly said some grocers are struggling to recruit new staff, and when businesses don’t have enough employees to perform physical monitoring, they could be in a vulnerable position.

Yup happens every day and they often get away with it since it is impossible to catch them all with little security.Bunch of losers who do this.THAT is one of the reasons why stores have to put up the prices.
Go woke, go broke laws that promote catch and release of criminals are the real reason crime is up.
Instead of 100% of our public spaces be in ornamental trees, bushes & flowers, how about we put 80% of our public space in fruit trees, berry bushes, & vegetable plots. It would be the same maintenance cost, and would help so many people. (Altho, food industry might oppose it)
Yeah, we deserve better from our government. How much is going to industries, and not subsidizing food?
Large grocery chains raised prices to create record profits during high inflation. They don't pay their employees a living wage, and politicians won't break up monopolies or force wages higher
