Captain Cook landed in Sydney on the 28th of April, 1770 the First Fleet landed at Botany Bay on 18 January, 1788. On January 26, 1949, the Nationality and Citizenship Act 1948 came into effect. This law created Australian citizenship. On this Day we all became Australians.

Could it have anything to do with Australia Day falling on a Thursday and instead of taking a 4 day extra long weekend, companies would prefer a 3 day one as people now with an option would more likely take Friday off.
