United Airlines plans to kick off 2023 by restoring service on two important Asian routes from San Francisco International Airport.
Cathay Pacific is currently the only carrier flying from SFO to Hong Kong. Cathay now flies six flights per week on that route, with plans to go daily on Jan. 19, SFO spokesperson Doug Yakel told me Monday. In addition to resuming its SFO nonstops to Osaka and Hong Kong, United is also increasing service to Tokyo from its other U.S. hubs in the new year. United will launch service from Newark, New Jersey, to Tokyo-Haneda airport in January, flying the route three times per week before going daily in March. The carrier also plans to resume nonstops from Denver to Tokyo-Narita airport in March, flying three times per week on that route.
