TikTok employees improperly accessed the user data of two journalists on the social-media service, according to several emails sent by company leaders to employees Thursday.

The employees who misused their authority to obtain user data were part of TikTok’s Internal Audit and Risk Control department, and they accessed the data of the journalists to try to identify leaks of confidential company information, TikTok General Counsel Erich Andersen wrote in an email to employees Thursday.
