Her husband, Robert M. “Bob” Luby, died of heart complications in 1998. He founded Luby’s cafeteria in San Antonio more than 80 years ago.

An Alamo Heights home, once owned by Kathleen Lane Luby, the wife of the Luby’s Cafeteria empire, is on the market for $1.9 million.In 2001, after a series of financial setbacks, Luby’s was purchased by Houston restaurateurs Chris and Harris Pappas. Last year, the remaining cafeterias and brand were sold to Calvin Gin, a member of the family that founded the Flying Food Group, one of North America’s largest airline caterers.
