Gardai have launched an investigation after an armed robbery at a business in the Greystones area of Wicklow.

The terrifying incident occurred just before 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 4, and it is understood nobody was injured.

A man, acting alone, entered the premises armed with what gardai understand was a firearm and threatened staff.After forcing them to hand over cash, he fled the scene on foot. Following enquiries by investigating gardai , a man aged in his 40s, was arrested in Greystones yesterday afternoon.A statement released by a garda spokesperson this morning read: “Gardaí investigating an armed robbery at a business premises in Greystones, Co. Wicklow on Wednesday 4th January 2023, have arrested a man.

“Shortly before 6:00 pm on Wednesday evening, a lone male entered the business premises armed with what is understood to be a firearm. The male threatened a staff member and left the premises on foot with a sum of cash.“Following enquiries by investigating Gardaí, a male was arrested in Greystones yesterday afternoon, Thursday 5th January 2023.
