Georgia-Pacific announces deal with Palatka to power paper mill

In an effort to cut operations costs, Georgia-Pacific announced that it has contracted with the Palatka Gas Authority to provide natural gas for powering its Palatka pulp and paper mill.

Previously, GP bought natural gas from multiple gas marketing firms. Starting Jan. 1, gas that is used for power production and steam generation is being purchased through the gas authority by the mill.The Palatka Gas Authority, owned by the City of Palatka, manages and operates Palatka’s natural gas utilities system.

“This contract underscores the value of partnership and will yield financial benefits to both the mill and the local community,” said Deb Coduto, vice president of manufacturing for the Palatka mill, in a release. According to a release, the new partnership is expected to cut operational costs and increase revenue for the Palatka Gas Authority, which will enable it to expand the service territory.Brawny, Sparkle and private label paper towels; Angel Soft and private label bath tissue; kraft paper used for recyclable mailers, grocery bags and butcher paper; and linerboard used to make corrugated boxes.
