A peak industry body fears that National Disability Insurance Scheme service providers are facing increasingly bleak financial outlooks, with not-for-profit organisations appearing to be at at greatest risk.

NDS chief executive officer Laurie Leigh said financial viability concerns had been foreshadowed for several years, prompting tough decisions by providers.

"Providers are having to make very difficult decisions about what services they are able to continue or not into the future. The NDS has continued to raise concerns around a range of structural issues in the NDIS, including increasing costs for insurance, safeguarding compliance, administration and planning, and perceived problems with the disability support worker cost model.

"The planning processes are very individualised and lead to a quite fragmented service within a group home setting, or a setting where people are living together," she said."A participant might have been assessed as needing 'awake at night' — somebody to be there overnight — but because they're in a three-person house, their package is only supported for a third of that overnight awake cost.

Maybe, if they stopped the massive ripoffs by some providers, they could find some funds?

How is this possible when they charge participants $80/hour and pay the support worker $30/hour? Dont just take their word for it, do some old fashioned journalism and follow it up.

'Not For Profit entities saw a drop in Profit ,in 21/22'? Ok then?

Hang on are these the same suppliers that charged $1800 for a wheelchair that my mate could buy for $800? Same brand, make and model but a thousand dollars different in price if purchased through the NDIS? How are they losing money? Or is it because Labor has cut down on grift?

The demand for Free Money & Services again proves to be insatiable! Regardless, of the good intentions of many! Who manages the MCMR tipping point of the NDIS, Medicare, Childcare, Hospitals, Education, etc! Not the Unions! RealMarkLatham FromeneKa nyunggai PeterDutton_MP

The NDIS is fraud

In the UK, their version of NDIS pays a flat rate directky to the participant. This cuts out the need for the middle man and plan managers which saves the taxpayer money, while giving disabled people true freedom of choice.

Maybe they could provide the NDIS by a public service agency instead of outsourcing to providers who have to try to make a profit out of it auspol

40 bill to 100 bill in 18 months , shorten is charge , no wonder 🤔

Maybe thoae at the top could be paid less, and increase the wages of care staff who get paid maccas rates.

NDIS provider exits market amid 'major systemic problems' with schemeHundreds of Tasmanians with disabilities will need to switch NDIS provider as Anglicare Tasmania exits the market, saying it cannot continue to subsidise the federally funded services. tragic for those who need its services Unfortunately a good concept destroyed by incompetence and corruption. It was a fantastic idea by Labor, but it is proving to be a bottomless money pit. I'm not sure why private charities and organisations can't help out more financially to take some of the burden of the lower end taxpayers?
