CEO Steven H. Collis said the 'new name better reflects who we are today and our impact across pharmaceutical care.”

AmerisourceBergen Corp. is changing its name.

The name change comes as the company has found itself, along with other major wholesale pharmaceutical distributors, embroiled in the thousands of opioid lawsuits filed by cities and states and other municipal bodies that are alleging both drug distributors and opioid manufacturers contributed to the country's opioid abuse epidemic.

AmerisourceBergen was formed in 2001 through the $7 billion merger of Valley Forge-based AmerisourceBergen and Bergen Brunswig of Orange, California.
