There are good reasons to believe it will not, especially if the economy avoids a deep recession. In the first place, employment in the non-tech economy has not followed the path of tech on the way up, so there’s no reason it has to follow it on the way down. Similarly, some non-tech parts of the economy are still rising toward pre-pandemic sales levels, while tech sales of all types—software, advertising, subscriptions, etc.
The decade or so of nonstop growth in employment is likely one of the reasons that the layoff announcements have come as such a shock to workers. They are telling journalists that they feel “disposable.
In other words, many of the biggest players in tech and likely many of the smaller companies and start-ups appear to have reacted to the boom in demand for their services and products during the pandemic and reopening by going on a shopping spree for workers. As demand has cooled, they’re over-staffed. This is much like retailers expecting a huge holiday shopping season and ending up with too much inventory.
Just clearing out of dead weight workers. In a tough economy the freeloaders have to go. We need to lighten the load of welfare too, so many people too lazy to work As always, never buy anything made in china. Don't ever trust a democrat and NEVER leave your child alone with one
Perhaps Joke Biden will now tell these tech workers they should learn to shovel coal.
You may have leave your place of residence to make a living now?
It's time to get your hands dirty for a change. Let's see you do some real work.
Every tech worker I know plays video games and watches YouTube while they’re supposed to be programming I speak from experience
they voted democrat u get what u vote for
Any job that can be performed in India is in trouble. How many CEOs in America are from India and how many of those companies jobs are being sent to India? OUTSOURCING!
elonmusk experience cutting Twitter staff showed bloted staffs can be cut!
Government wants us to be dependent on them for everything. We like our independence, own businesses, choices in the kind of heat or appliances, food, movies, school choices...we want. We DO NOT WANT DICTATORS to EAT BUGS, Globalists, Elites have steak, lobster while we starve
Simple, YES!
Nope, bloated leftists companies not needing staff…
It's not. Every tech company became bloated during covid. Source: I work in tech.
No. These companies expanded their workforce based upon the work from home boom. Now that it’s slowing down, they’re right sizing
I don't believe it's a bellwether for the broader labor market. I believe it's a sign that tech cos, with their bloated workforces, woke cultures, limited contribution to society, revenue from ads nobody buys from, and stagnation in innovation, have lost their luster.
Learn to weld.
Those tech guys should learn to mine coal.
Not if you are listening to potus and PressSec teeteehee!
Doubt it. It's the beginning of the end of the entitlement era for tech workers where you have enough time to make Tik Toks of sipping lattes and going to do entertainment fun things during the work day. That's not work.
Learn to code.
Probably
Don't all those layoffs just mean that we did not need those H-1B visas that all big tech companies couldn't live without? So do the foreign workers now go home on their own dime or freeload of the United States the rest of their lives?
Considering we are already in a recession, yes more layoffs are coming guaranteed.
I dont think anyone is asking ....
Those self serving useless premadonnas teched thierselves out of thier own jobs...
They can learn to code. Oh.
The Tech Industry over hired after Trumps lockdowns. The majority of their 'layoffs' are under 5% of their overhires. There's still a massive labor shortage in the USA. 10 million jobs sit unfilled. This is why we need 4 million immigrants.
