Just like the McRib, straws might be a thing of the past at McDonald’s. The chain has begun testing strawless lids in some US cities as part of a multi-year effort to make its packaging more environmentally friendly. “These lids help optimize our packaging and eliminate the use of small plastics, just one example of the many solutions we’re reviewing as part of our ongoing global commitment to reduce waste,” a McDonald’s spokesperson said in a statement.
It’s similar to the “sippy cup” lid at Starbucks that has been in use for the past three years. Restaurant Business Online, which first noticed the new McDonald’s lids, spotted the new lids being tested in Minneapolis. Customers can still request a straw if needed, the report said. For the past several years, fast food chains in particular have been trying to figure out ways to reduce waste and go green.
What if it’s a shake how are you supposed to suck it up
I’m testing the Meless McDonalds.
So, a cup with a hole in the lid to drink out of? That's just a can. Why not just give cans or bottles of cold beverages?
Fox News meltdown in 3… 2… 1…
Republicans mad right now. They don't realize they've been using them for years.
Why stop there? Go for cup-less soda!
Starbucks uses these
Imagine thinking straws are even remotely the issue. Virtue signaling scumbags all of em
The Wawa strawless lid was a game changer
McDonalds Right🙄 This will make a giant dent in massive 6 Texas-sized garbage patches in our oceans RealTimers this is what I was trying 2 explain about our system built the last 50 years Crap-Donalds is just using window dressing GretaThunberg LeoDiCaprio ThisMorning📰
Paper vs Pastic cups. Which is worse from carbon footprint standpoint?
Strawless PLASTIC lids for PLASTIC cups. 'Environmentally friendly.' LOL
All of the events going on in this country and the world. This is what you report on?!?!?
Really can’t be worse than the paper straws that we have now. 😂
Still selling hyperprocessed fattening food
No thanks
Love the giant *plastic* cup.
What about the plastic cup...? 🤔
That will save the planet
Sure beats drinking straw glue!
It puts the straw in the basket it does this whenever it's told
They’re really just testing using smaller cups. And the new lids are shit McDonalds
It’s packaging more environmentally friendly!? Clearly they don’t know the carbon footprint of obesity……..
Guess paper straws are too expensive
Dunkin’ did it
Yes because everyone is dying to be suckling on a lid that has been touched from every angle by their employee. Wenlearned nothing from covid. Now imagine the person handling the drinks all day has non symptomatic covid…. Genius
Is it still plastic? SMH
McDonalds this is a terrible idea from the pov of an investor and a customer
The same amount of plastic used in straws is needed to produce these style of lids.
They’re using those here in the Philippines already! Cebu in particular
The lids are plastic...
When customers start causing more accidents because of spilled drinks or when their view of the road being momentarily obstructed by their drink, just remember environmentalism caused it!
Our McDonald’s does paper cups with paper lids. Works great.
Really!? this is the news right now? Really!?
When I go through the drive through to get a soda I plan on drinking it while I drive. Without a straw this is going to be sloppy
Then lose the plastic cup and go back to paper!!!!!
Adult sippy cups. 🤷🏽♀️
Plastic lids?
Or they could just stop selling beverages. Like world wide no more drinks at mcdonalds seems would be a step in the right direction towards saving our lives on earth.
This has been in Canada for years, why is America behind on everything lol
Um... the extra plastic it’d take to make those is the same as a straw
This is where I draw the line
Woke Kids, I'm mean, Woke Lids. Autocorrect
Very smart move by the left to distract the right with threats of banning gas stoves. While they all ran home to make social media videos of themselves cooking for the 1st time in years, the libs cleared all the straws out of McDonalds !
Just think of all the plastic disposable items humans create. Look at the plastic bottles in 1 convenience store... banning straws.... just cutting cost.
An entire (thick) plastic cup and lid instead of cardboard + really flimsy plastic straw and lid. Bullshit this is more environmentally friendly.
In a giant plastic cup?
It's good how they will still give you a straw if requested.
Its called 'drinking'
GO WOKE GO BROKE ✌🏻
Fixed…. McDonald’s has begun testing strawless PLASTIC lids and cups…
Amtrak Amtrak has already been doing that for months now.
The cup alone is made up of 90% more plastic than the straw itself. The straws are not the issues.
So are they switched to plastic cups now? You need a plastic cup for the new lid.. are plastic cups better or worse for the environment than paper cups?
Or you could just stop using all oil based non biodegradable plastic and instead use biodegradable nontoxic hemp based plastics. Every single use plastic we use can be replaced with hemp that doesn’t pollute
This... is the last STRAW!
Oh, please. They use 95 million straws a day. They will save a bundle of money by not using straws. If they cared so much about the environment they wouldn't serve drinks in plastic cups.
We’re going sippy cups!
I’m usually driving with my cold drink! No way without a straw
😂😆 plastic cup, environmentally friendly 🎱 McDonalds
But the lid requires more plastic… and straws are not a blight… it was made up by a 9yo that the media treated as if it were peer reviewed science.
Notice the plastic cup!! 🙄
Blasphemy
Lol it's in a plastic cup
If only they AcceptDoge what a White House Delivery Luncheon Party this could be $DOGE + $SHIB = flatearthmoney
Those lids don’t work and most people still want to be able to use straws
Sippy cups. Another reason to avoid McDonalds
But it's still a plastic cup?
That’s silly.
NO!
RIP the clown juice joke
The mcsippy cup
Bring back paper straws… problem solved. 🥤👍🏻😎
Maybe we should get rid of disposable masks
Make it a paper cup with a thin plastic film on the inside, like a normal company, if you want to have less plastic. Removing the straw is a minimal difference.
I keep a bag of straws
Sippy Cups.
Just stop trying to awnser questions no one’s asking McDonalds
71% of climate change is the fault of just 3 industries. Sippy cups solve nothing! Billionaires’ turn to sacrifice!
I couldn't think of a more uninteresting thing to devote an entire article on your official website.
Explain how you drink a milkshake from a sippy cup.
How about disposable hemp cup’s? If that’s even a thing
It just made no essential difference
They should just sell reusable straws (plastic or metal)
Environment my ass. It’s about money. Do you know how much money they save by eliminating nuts from sundaes (using the excuse that it’s good for allergy sufferers)?
They have had that for a few years in Hong Kong
Meanwhile in China.
Nobody watches you, we just make fun of you. Fake news
Brought to you by the American Dental Association
What about the teeth health though? It's better to use a straw to drink drinks with sugar, to help reduce the amount it comes into contact with your teeth, esecially the back teeth. Especially with a cola because not only the sugar but also phosphoric acid in it can erode teeth.
Straws have been gone for quite a while here in Beijing lol.
CapacitiesHQ save
A plastic cup and they’re worried about a straw
How far behind could they possibly be? This far.
Lol
I agree we should be environmentally friendly, but not this. Without that straw my Diet Coke just won’t hit right.
Looks like plastic containers and plastic tops while trying to reduce plastic pollution- just like Gore and Gates flying by jet all over the World reducing carbon emissions- explain how this works
Imagine saving the world from plastic straws only to kill it with plastic cups🫤
But the cups are still plastic?
Keep the straw and go back to the paper cup. Problem solved
If my stomach gets punished for eating it, so should the environment.
Lids spill
Coke not gonna hit the same
Straws kill
How is it an American company is still testing responses in US when the rest of the world has lived with this lid for the past 2 years?
Finally a way to stop my wife from drinking 64 Oz of DietCoke with every McDonalds McRib, available for a limited time!
McDonald’s in the Philippines has been doing this for almost 2years. Yes it’s still plastic, but it wont fit a turtle’s nose as seen on a viral video. How did a straw go in that deep into turtle’s nose I wonder
Terrible idea! We will never give up straws!
I have a problem about a worker touching my lid to put it on. The straws are wrapped
Good
It’s made of ……plastic!
Try drinkless lids?🤣
It’s… it’s still plastic😂😂 🤡🌎
Best straws ever made. But I like the change. May have to outlaw milkshakes next. (straws won't work).
I think the straw is what make's their pop taste so good
just don't drink coke or sugary drink. It's far better for your health and the environment, too.
Go further and take a page from Starbucks and sell reusable cups for $30 McDonalds could turn the cup into its own rewards program too.
What about the plastic container? & of course, the plastic water bottles.
We're doing our part by just not buying McDonald's in the first place. Kinda like how we skip right over the CNN channel.
Bite me. How many fish are alive today because of less straws? It’s such an act of virtue signaling that does nothing for the environment. Woke BS.
The cup and the lid create more waste than the straw. Why all the focus on straws
👍🏻
No straws? What's next? No cups? You'll just cup your hands together, and they'll pour your drink into them.
You know this is all for posturing right? Of the millions of cups that get used a day, how many actually make it to the recycling bin? How many get tossed in the garbage?
Recycling is pointless
And yet the cup is plastic…
Every beverage is strawless after 5 minutes with paper straws
Maybe if they would fix and clean up our water supply the need for MASS producing the PLASTIC water bottle’s wouldn’t have be so necessary. Now instead we were and are being poisoned from plastics. And SCIENTISTS made PLASTIC so can we really trust the scientists that work corps?
Adult sippie cups ☕️
What is the lid? It’s a flat plastic straw.
This will fail
Is this news? Or is it advertising? Tempted to unfollow frankly. First strike.
But still use plastic lids and cups?
Received these with our order in Puerto Rico, they also gave us straws, but there’s no where to put the straw into the sippy cup lid. Didn’t hate it.
They're testing strawless lids on their plastic glasses?
What about all that ice that's just going straight into landfill?
At the end the container is still plastic😑
The lid is plastic…? Hahahahah 😂 the cup is plastic.. ? 😂
Sounds better than the paper straws that dissolve in my drink.
In a big plastic cup 😂😂
Is it just an urban legend that McD’s Coke is formulated to taste just perfectly based on the size of the straw? I promise, if you screw up how McD’s Cokes taste, you will lose out big time! People go just for those. SaveTheCokes
This is complete bullshit. If they cared about the environment, the cups would be made of paper. But plastic is cheaper. CNN, do some actual journalism.
Nah I’ll pass not sure about Starbucks either bad enough they touch dirty money then put their palm over the top of cup nah
Yeah let's get rid of plastic straw for plastic lids! We so smart!
If McDonalds remove straws, then I won’t go anymore for sure! Soda goes with straws ! Wrong idea!
First Microsoft is producing more energy efficient X-boxes, now this....wonder what's happening on Fox right now?
Why don’t they start with the plastic cups they use? They used to use paper cups until a few years ago.
One picture of an unlucky sea turtle started this whole ridiculous mess. It’s fishing nets people. Fishing nets make up almost half of the plastic waste in the ocean. That said, I like me a strawless lid!
Good!!!!
Can’t wait to see Tucker and Faux News getting their viewers freaking out about this too.
🤡
still big plastic cups. Greenwashing. Horrible.
I’m all for more environmentally friendly options, but the new lids suck.
But didn’t their cup used to be made from waxed paper?
Maybe they should test cleaning their stores
why limit straws due to plastic use and then use plastic cups that can’t be any significant amount of recycled material lol
timanderson87 gfienberg17 😔
That’s a good idea. Drinking carbonated drinks with straws puts too much air into your gastro tract. Gives gas and bloating.
We should cut down the trees to consume our beverages instead!
Straw is just the tip of the iceberg...
No!!!, I love smacking the straws on the table to open them, and smacking them on the cup also to get them in
But in a plastic container. Doubt if the carbon benefit equation works out there.
That cup can make 50 straws 🤣🤣🤣🤣
After a hard night of partying - two big Macs and a filet of fish - some good stuff
But the magas! How will the magas drink their mcbeverages?!
