Tampa Bay Rays likely staying in St. Pete

has chosen the Tampa Bay Rays and Hines development team to redevelop the 86-acre Historic Gas Plant District in downtown St. Pete.

The time line is to have a term sheet completed by the end of the year so a development agreement can be presented to city council for approval by summer 2024. The Rays’ lease on the city-owned Tropicana Field expires in 2027. The proposal shows the team hopes to complete the new ballpark in the first phase of development, which would have it ready just in time for the 2028 season.
