Finance minister Michael McGrath has confirmed that certain cost of living measures will extend past February.

There was a cost of living package introduced as part of Budget 2023, which included social welfare bonuses, double payments and the €600 energy credit. Some of the measures are set to expire this month, but Minister McGrath has confirmed that they will extend some, the Independent reports. "I must also be clear, however, we cannot afford to continue with that level of support indefinitely," he said. "It’s important that fiscal policy is responsive, that it is agile and that we retain the right and the ability to step in with supports as necessary, and then withdraw them as appropriate."
