The exit comes with a $50 million fee for the Longhorns.

that the $50 million forfeited by each school will be split between the Big 12's TV partner, Fox, and the remaining eight Big 12 schools.

"We have always been committed to fulfilling our contractual obligations to the Big 12. The collegiate athletics landscape has continued to evolve rapidly, and working together to accelerate our exit produced benefits for all parties," UT Presidentstated."The Big 12 has been a respected partner for nearly three decades, and we look forward to a final season of spirited competition with our friends and rivals.

The agreements still need final approval from the governing boards of OU and UT, which seems highly likely. Since making clear in mid-2021 that it intended to move to the SEC, Texas had indicated it would stick with the Big 12 through the 2024-25 school year, if needed.

The departure of the Longhorns and Sooners the following year will drop the Big 12's ranks back to a dozen member schools.
