A baker who was born deaf is now the owner of a successful baking business at home after struggling amid the pandemic.

According to Cedric Castillo's report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, Charina Marquez was a café manager before the pandemic.

With everyone wearing face masks, she lost the ability to lip-read and eventually lost her job as lockdowns hit the economy. "Nag-close 'yung cafe. Nahirapan ako kasi kinailangan kong suportahan 'yung pamilya ko. Kailangan ko maghanap ng paraan," she said via a translator. However, she did not lose hope. She started her own baking business at home and it has become a hit with her bestseller, burnt cheesecake."Sa disability community, kung anuman ang wish n'yo, 'wag kayo mag-give up. Oo nandiyan, mapapagod ka pero 'wag kang kampante lang," she said.

"Para sa hearing community, please be patient with us deaf people and help us, let's help each other."
