Cepeda said many potential Latina business owners — and even those who already have a business — aren’t sure of the options available to help them get started or to reach the next level of business success. Even if it’s a business with significant potential, few young entrepreneurs know up front what it takes to fully start, fund and run a business.
She began joining every board and nonprofit organization she could. She ultimately landed a job as a corporate finance executive at Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Co. before leaving in 1991 to launch her own firm, A.C. Advisory Inc. In 2016, she sold her company to PFM Financial Advisors LLC, where she remained as a managing director until 2019.
“Let’s face it: Most of the entrepreneurs are a lot younger, so I’m around younger, smarter, cutting-edge people,” she said. “By trade, I’m a product person, not a business person,” Rattner said. “Jill Kaat gave me the tools and skills to develop the business side.”
