. Unlike Meta, Carmack seems to get that telling people you’re going to take away their games to free up bandwidth to work on a metaverse no one especially wants yet is a bad idea.

The price of the PS3 at launch was so high it cost Sony crucial ground in its war against the Xbox 360, and in the US, that meant the Xbox 360 won the console wars that generation. The Quest 3 is expected to do the same thing — costing more than its predecessor at launch. While Meta hasn’t announced a price for the Quest 3, Rabkin told staff it was expected to cost consumers “a bit more” money than the Quest 2 currently costs.

The metaverse is really just a gaming environment, nothing much more

It's proof that you can't throw money at something and have it be successful. You have to understand what people want, not what your biased and unnuanced analytics are telling you. Meaningful products are built and managed by enthusiasts, not people focused on ads/monetization.

If only meta realised that things they are killing (Echo VR) are closer to being a metaverse than their own sorry attempt.
