Here's Digital Foundry's tech review of Atomic Heart to give you an idea of how it performs.
Atomic Heart's angle, like most games set in dystopia, is pretty obvious - but it's obfuscated by its own noise. All of which is to say: many of Atomic Heart's problems are much more boring than the controversy would have you believe.
Best of all, and most surprisingly, there is a decent story here - and P-3 becomes, dare I say it, quite likeable in time. Those early hours are really an elaborate fake-out, as he walks the path from true believer to something more like furiously betrayed.
Despite everything there are some highlights: P-3, slowly - slowly - coming around to what Charles explains to him one. A novel feature letting you talk to the occasional dead body being another.
I'm really enjoying the game, can't remember the last game that got melee combat in first person so right like this one, and also the variety and creativity in combat is very good. It's insane to read 'you just dodge and scratch the enemy' like.. that's what you do in every melee
I've read the article and still don't know what fear you're talkin bout. I do think theres a wave of VG journalism pretending like using historical references for flavour or world building without any true agenda behind it is some crime. You know, cause 'every game is political'
For people wondering if there are also positive reactions to this review: check the cited tweets and the comments in the article. The discrepancy is interesting.
And you expect us to trust YOUR rewire? No thanks. There are better sources out there.
i really liked the game , me and many others. it's literally the first game from a new studio. it looks bonkers, it has great enviroments and unique concepts.
Pathetic, hypocritical review.
Every Ukrainian gamer now be like
No surprise that someone from Eurogamer doesn’t understand a games story until halfway through it as you said lol sorry didn’t finish it tho I was told to read it for how ignorant it is but I got just that far and called it. Def not registering on site to comment so Twitter it is
Another Eurogamer piece (or no piece in one such case…) that can’t help but not just review a game for its own sake. Gaming is a hobby, an escape, and one I wish to enjoy away from the day to day world. Will stick with other sites I think for now
Had to get through 5 apologetics paragraphs of u justifying why controversial games can be reviewed at all - but the actual review of the game was good 👍 I agree it was a derivative, but fun game
honestly i enjoyed the game from start to finish. Solid 7.5 for me
this not-review just seems like y'all trying to capitalize on fairly superficial controversy, while simultaneously trying to tip-toe around it. Big 'on both sides' energy. Kinda the same vibe as when Jason Schreier tries to rehash his work when he has mostly nothing new to say.
You should've put more of the game in a game review.
