Ireland is home to 16 of the world's 20 largest tech companies, in a sector generating €35 billion in exports each year. How has this small country become a leading tech incubator?

 

Money laundering and tax evasion?

Tax breaks, generous tax breaks.

Because it's easier to launder money in Ireland..

Because they dodge their sales taxes when selling into the UK

Cos don't have to pay tax

Young, highly educated workforce. The only native English speaking country in the EU with a seat at the table. Stable government and liberal society. Oh and don't forget the favourable corporate tax system.

Should you identify in the tweet that (1) The headline claim is false. Ireland is NOT 'home' to these companies any more than, say Austria or Belgium are. These companies are not HQed in Ireland; & (2) this is an uncritical puff piece paid for by a State agency, IDA?

Simple, check it’s tax rate for corporations.

Basically, a tech company can easily move wherever it wants because its products can in principle be made and shipped anywhere, so they all cluster together where the conditions are most favorable.

That's an awful lot of words which could have been quickly summarised as.. 'Corporate Tax Haven'.
