President Cyril Ramaphosa will chair a special Cabinet meeting on Wednesday to examine a plan by electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa to slow the decommissioning of old coal power stations. | News24_Business

On Wednesday, a special Cabinet meeting will discuss a plan to slow down the decommissioning of old coal power stations.

News24 understands that the special Cabinet meeting was called after the ANC's national working committee on Monday approved a plan that would slow down the retirement of old coal power stations. Prolonging the life of Eskom coal stations will be in direct conflict with SA's just energy transition and the climate goals it committed to at the COP26 conference in 2021.

The special Cabinet meeting is also expected to focus on the ramping up of emergency power as power-utility Eskom implemented stage six load-shedding.

_Business Let's hope it actually happens. All talk no do.

_Business Immediately I see the word 'Plan' with Ramaphosa name on it I know it's lies

_Business Gwede's grubby fingerprints are making their mark again I see: We can always rely on Ramaphosa to listen to the wrong one and destroy our country further.

_Business What happened to the plan Eskom has been, hitherto, working according to?

_Business I think the govt should install a large DYNOs at each prison, and have prisoner peddling 24/7/365 in shifts to feed power. We get some electricity and value back, busy prisoners can't make plans.

_Business He must not be given a chance to shutdown another coal station.

_Business Comrades are getting ready to eat

_Business What do you think this meeting will achieve?

_Business So many project options to extend the lifecycle on these old stations like refurbishment, re-implementation, modernization projects, etc but khongolose must eat by decommissioning facilities that are still functional to the detriment of the country, the people and economy.

_Business CyrilRamaphosa if you don't mind just asking GwedeMantashe1 if there is anything he would like to help with? Maybe installing solar on all GovernmentZA hospitals? I know the old man, is very fussed over 'whose budget is it anyway' but its a humane thing to do
