Industry watchers describe Bains\u0027 hiring by Rogers as an example of the “revolving door” between politics and corporate Canada. Read more.

Marisa Wyse, the current chief legal affairs officer, will assume regulatory affairs following the departure of Ted Woodhead, the outgoing chief regulatory and government affairs officer, it said.

Mark Goldberg, a telecommunications consultant and founder of Canadian Telecom Summit, said Bains would likely ensure, as a member of the executive leadership team, that the commitments Rogers undertook are met. But Bains’ appointment also appeared to be a classic example of the “revolving door,” wherein people go from government into private that trade on the expertise they gained in office, said Vass Bednar, the founding executive director of McMaster University’s Master of Public Policy Program.

She added that she was “hopeful that models the highest conduct” and that he was well positioned to “ensure that the company can adhere to those historic expectations that have been set by Minister Champagne.”
