Owner Robert Rodriguez translates lifelong cooking experiences into authentic Mexican prepared food at Orale at the West Side Market. CLEVELAND, Ohio – Got your margarita recipe perfected for a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5? Now get your dinner ready. Orale! at the West Side Market makes it easy with from-scratch items like empanadas, chili rellenos and tamales. Side dishes include cactus salad, guacamole and more.
Rodriguez took that creativity to the West Side Market 24 years ago. He started with one stand and now operates two. For a few years, he operated an Orale restaurant on West 25th Street but closed that to focus on the market operation. He doesn’t anticipate expansion in the future. “We don’t have a lot of space and we have a lot of regulars who come every week for something they like,” he says. “We can’t take something away. We stick with what we have. That’s what people like and we’ve been very successful.”
“I grew up with the flavors in Mexico, I just put things together. I don’t need recipes,” he says. “That’s my art and I get a lot of satisfaction when people tell me that’s the best food they’ve had.”
