Advanced Micro Devices Inc. doesn’t face the dismally low expectations that Intel Corp. had when the larger chip maker reported results, leading to some concerns that the bar for AMD may actually be too high.

While Intel had a low bar to clear, AMD doesn’t have that advantage, Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon pointed out. Rasgon also called recent share behavior “less encouraging than we have seen in the past amid all the channel noise” and said that the reasons for his downgrade of the stock to market perform in January, “especially margins,” are “happening.”

Increasing awareness and popularity of generative AI has led to suggestions that cloud-service providers, or “hyperscalers” — such as Microsoft’s Azure, Amazon.com Inc.’s AMZN Amazon Web Services, Alphabet Inc.’s GOOG GOOGL Google Cloud Platform and Oracle Corp.’s ORCL Cloud Infrastructure — will drive data-center revenue growth in the second half of the year.
