Award-winning architect Bobby McAlpine will be the morning keynote speaker at Decorative Center Houston's annual spring market event on May 3.
McAlpine will talk about his newest book,"Romantic Modernism," which features his own home as well as other projects in the Bahamas, Virginia and Tennessee. His talk will be from 10 a.m.-noon in the ground floor gallery at the Decorative Center, with a reception afterward in the David Sutherland showroom in suite 141.
At 1 p.m., also in the ground floor gallery, a panel of color influencers will talk about"The Psychology of Color and its Emotional Impact." Panelists include Stephen Westland, professor of color science at Leeds University in England, Claire Vallis, creative director of the Sanderson Design Group, and Houston interior designers Courtnay Tartt Elias of Creative Tonic and Dennis Brackeen of Moxie. A reception will follow at Culp Associates, suite 4018.
At noon, the Scalamandre showroom will present new fabrics and wallcoverings; at 2 p.m., Cantoni Trade will demonstrate its motion and power recline seating; plus another 2 p.m. event at the Madeval USA showroom takes guests behind the scenes of the recent ASID Showhouse, with designers Candice Rogers, Victoria Sheffield, Casey Brand, Cheryl Baker, Lauren Ashley and Teri Pugh.
At 2:30 p.m. in the Florense showroom, the topic of aging in place will be discussed and at 2:45 p.m., LA-based artist and designer Abel Macias will show his new textile collection for Schumacher.
