UDC/PPG-owned facility currently staffs 50 and intends to double its workforce with further investment

A state-of-the-art OLED manufacturing facility opened its doors for the first time in Shannon, Co Clare, on Thursday morning.

Organic light-emitting diode - or OLED - materials are used to harness light in the screens of technological devices such as smartphones, smart watches and computers. Nasdaq-listed, US-based firm Universal Display Corporation opened the facility in partnership with PPG, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with an initial investment of €10 million.
