U.S. stocks are drifting to begin what could be a quiet stretch following several weeks of gains.

The S&P 500 was mostly unchanged in afternoon trading Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 117 points, or 0.4%, at 33,641, as of 2:16 p.m. Eastern time, while the Nasdaq composite was 0.1% higher. There were slightly more stocks rising than falling in the S&P 500. A gain for market heavyweight Apple helped steady Wall Street. It rose 1% ahead of anSaudi Arabia said it would cut back production

Both were close to $120 a year ago, and their prices have fallen on worries that a strapped global economy would burn less fuel.
