The North Texas metropolitan area put one more company on the list than it had last year, the fourth most of any area in the country behind New York, Chicago...

The intrastate relocation won’t change the fact that Texas is No. 1 among all the states with 55 Fortune 500 companies, two more than California and five more than New York.

“Texas is the headquarters of headquarters,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement Monday. “With our strong and growing workforce and welcoming business climate, Texas is where businesses find the freedom to flourish and people find opportunities to prosper.” The Fortune 500 list includes a ranking of U.S.-headquartered companies by revenue, which is a boon for energy giants such as Exxon Mobil and pharmaceutical and medical supply firm McKesson , both based in Irving. Exxon Mobil, which moved up three spots to jump Apple, UnitedHealth Group and CVS Health, is scheduled to leave Irving in mid-2023.
