Saturday, June 17: Too many bars, too much crime and vagrancy — all plague the downtown destination, readers say.

I’m offended the city is considering taxing us for the failure of this part of downtown. If it needs more money, I say make the tourists pay extra for the niche businesses but leave our taxes alone. Why should residents of that ward, and particularly of the city at large, be taxed extra for it when the main draw is tourists?

There is also the issue of households that occasionally may go over the limit and find themselves in a position with a garbage container left at the curb that would have to be picked up the following collection day. This would reduce the amount of garbage allowed for collection on that following collection day. This could snowball out of control quickly.Article content
