The City of Vancouver says congestion around the site and spillover of the market onto sidewalks has created safety concerns.

But the market is now at risk of closing with its lease ending in August.

Just outside the market gates Thursday morning, Vancouver Police confiscated a knife from a man who was selling electronics. Other officers were seen asking a woman selling goods on the street to clear them from the sidewalk. The market was temporarily closed last month after a targeted assault June 12 saw several people attacked with bear spray and other weapons. It reopened this week. Two security guards were seen checking the bags of all people entering the market Thursday morning.Article content
