Chubb has been about as good as you could ask. He has 6,341 career rushing yards in five seasons, including three seasons over 1,200 yards. Last season, Chubb rushed for a career high 1,525 yards on a career-high 302 carries and tied a career high scoring 12 touchdowns. He had 239 receiving yards.
“I felt like I had to be there. I’m in camp. Those guys aren’t in camp right now, but I still made time to get on the Zoom and listen to what everyone’s saying, and I feel like it was important for me to be there,” he said, “because we got young guys who will be up next like J.T. , Najee and J.K. Dobbins. I feel like it was important for me for them to see my face and to hear my voice there. It’s supporting everyone.
“When we made our decision at running back, we felt like we had a superstar at the position who embodied everything that we wanted within the organization,” Berry said. “So we didn’t overthink it. It’s Nick Chubb, right? And so for us it was a pretty straightforward decision because those difference makers are hard to find.”
The good news for Chubb is his quarterback is in his corner and the corner of the other running backs. “I feel like that’s a myth in a way. I think everyone’s different. You can’t say wear and tear just as a whole of every running back because Derrick Henry, how many yards has he had and he’s still rolling. I feel good,” he said. “I think we’re really the only position that matters. You can see receivers who have been hurt and it’s in every situation of they’re getting hurt, injury-prone or anything. They only say that with running backs. I don’t think that’s fair for us.
