Monday, July 31: It\u0027s past time the government stopped subsidizing an industry that is harming the environment, says one reader.

It is unbelievable that the environment minister is only now instituting rules governing Crown investment and subsidies in fossil fuel development. Export Development Canada contributed $19 billion last year alone to oil and gas. In the same year the industry made twice that in profits.

Yes, it is good news that financial support is finally being steered toward green energy projects. Why wasn’t this legislated when the promise was first made by G20 leaders in 2009?Article contentSomehow, despite the abundance of well-proven technology, the city of Ottawa always seems to think that it is different and needs to develop something new.
