Such a sad situation

Below are the 14 Wilko stores closing down after the retail giant admitted it was on the brink of entering administration. The business - founded in Leicester in 1930 - announced these are the stores forced to shut across the UK after bosses revealed hundreds of stores were at risk of closure.

Wilko chief executive Mark Jackson said he will continue to push the interested parties to "move as fast as possible". In a statement, he explained: "We’ll continue to progress discussions with interested parties with the aim of completing a transaction which preserves the business and will encourage those interested parties we’re in discussions with to move as fast as possible.

Jackson previously said that the retailer was finding it difficult to secure a buyer quickly enough. His statement said: "While we can confirm we’ve had a significant level of interest, including indicative offers that we believe would meet all our financial criteria to recapitalise the business, at present. Unfortunately, with this in mind, today we’re having to take the difficult decision to file a NOI.
