Investors to monitor Malaysia’s Q2 GDP announcement today, says analyst.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened higher today but retreated thereafter due to extended profit-taking in selected heavyweights, dealers said.

“We believe the market may cheer should the reported number come above the Bloomberg consensus expectations of 3.6% year-on-year growth,” it said. “The strong vehicles data may boost automotive-related stocks, while the energy sector may advance in line with higher crude oil prices,” it said. Of the actives, Hong Seng eased 0.5 sen to 6.0 sen, while Tanco went up 1 sen to 56 sen, Parkson added 3 sen to 25 sen and Awanbiru advanced 2 sen to 19.5 sen.
