Porter and co-owners Emily Ray-Porter, his wife, and friend Cullen Potts created Berkley’s Market and started expanding their brandThey operated Royal Blue in Dallas from 2015 to 2021 until the location closed in Highland Park Village. That space is now Sadelle’s bagel restaurant.
The store has been open for two weeks and so far customer response has affirmed the owners’ belief that there was a demand for a shop like theirs that sells groceries, prepared food to-go, coffee, pastries, beer and wine and wine by the glass, Porter said.Once the temperature cools, he sees friends meeting on the patio, which has seating for 50, with a glass of wine and taking a break from shopping.
Porter said he knows the Knox district already has coffee shops and bakeries and a Trader Joe’s, but he said, “What we do is a little special and unique to the neighborhood.”Berkley’s stocks several local brands: Bisous Bisous Pâtisserie, Everett & Elaine, Haute Sweets, Cake Bar, Empire Baking, Bresnan Bread & Pastry, Lucky Layla Farms, Aint No Mo Butter Cakes, Stocks & Bondy and Milk & Patience.
