U.S. stocks opened slightly higher Friday, with major benchmarks on track for weekly losses, as investors await comments from another Federal Reserve official ahead of next week’s report on inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.02% was up 0.1% soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.20% rose 0.2% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.42% increased 0.3%, according to FactSet data, at last check.
Investors on Thursday heard remarks from central banking officials including New York Fed President John Williams, who said during a moderated discussion at Bloomberg “we’ve gotten monetary policy in a very good place.” Meanwhile, San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. Eastern Time on Friday. Next week investors will get a reading on August inflation, with data from the consumer-price index scheduled to be released on Sept. 13.
