Director Sarah Rodgers discusses the stage comedy The 39 Steps,

The 39 StepsWhen: March 1 to 10Where: Norman Rothstein TheatreTickets: from $29 at circlebrightproductions.comIn Patrick Barlow’s 2005 version of The 39 Steps, the serious spy story of John Buchan’s 1915 novel is played for laughs. Owing more to the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock movie of the same title, Barlow’s stage comedy is written for four actors playing more than 100 roles. Circle Bright Productions is adding Mandarin surtitles to their upcoming production.

And Drew Facey is doing the set, and we’ve incorporated the sur-titles into the design very cleverly and subtly.Q: Have you seen previous local productions of the play?A: I saw the Arts Club’s , which Dean Paul Gibson directed. David Marr was in that production, and we have the great gift of having his talent and comedic skills in our production. And we have Jay Kindle, who did the touring production of that Arts Club show. So I have two anchors in the piece.
