Ukraine's intelligence chief has claimed Kyiv's missile strike on the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea fleet in Crimea hit senior naval officials; Pope Francis has labelled the weapons industry a key driver of the 'martyrdom' of Ukrainian people.

The head appointed by Russia in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk, which Russia has annexed, has enforced a curfew through a decree published today.

The missile assault was launched by Kyiv on Friday morning, targeting the fleet situated in the port city of Sevastopol in Crimea, which is currently under Russian occupation. In the last 24 hours, Russia has launched 83 attacks, Oleksandr Prokudin said on Telegram, firing 332 shells in total and 28 at the city alone.

During his return journey from Marseille, France, the pope appeared to allude to Poland's recent decision to cease arms shipments to Ukraine when questioned about the ongoing war. It was an apparent reference to the announcement by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawieck that Poland was no longer sending arms to Ukraine as part of a trade dispute. Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed the West as an "empire of lies" and expressed scepticism regarding the latest United Nations proposals aimed at reviving the Black Sea grain initiative.
