Japan’s trade and energy minister will meet three senior Labor ministers on Sunday and will raise the effect of Australia’s emissions rules on future LNG projects.

Tokyo’s top official in charge of energy and trade will urge the Albanese government to maintain Australia’s “stable investment environment” when he meets senior ministers on Sunday to discuss the effect ofJapan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Yasutoshi Nishimura, said both countries remained in talks about the safeguard mechanism, which imposes net-zero emissions requirements on LNG projects.

Mr Nishimura will meet with Energy Minister Chris Bowen, Trade Minister Don Farrell and Resources Minister Madeleine King at 1pm AEST in Melbourne on Sunday before addressing a major Japan-Australian business conference. "Japan will continue to work with Australia to support the establishment of a hydrogen and ammonia supply chain between Australia and Japan," he said.
