Renderings for a park accessibility project in Fort Hunter. The Giant Company donated $50,000 towards the project.The Giant Company has donated funds to support a project to renovate a playground in Dauphin County in order to make it fully accessible to children and families with mobility issues.

Becky Boone, an educator with the Capital Area Intermediate Unit and board member of the Friends of Fort Hunter, spoke about the importance adding accessibility while also carefully maintaining the historic area near the park. “We took her into the playground which had tire chips on it, and she immediately became stuck under the tire chips,” Boone said. “The wheels kept going around and around, digging deeper and deeper into the surface of the playground.”“When we see projects like this, especially people like me, we get a fuller understanding of the concept of accessibility, and how it is so difficult for some kids to enjoy something as basic as a playground,” Saylor said.
