'We wanted to recognise the vital role our local businesses and voluntary groups play in our community'

The Mayor of Whitworth Councillor Mike Royds and his wife the Mayoress are inviting people to attend at The Ashcroft Civic Hall in Whitworth for the event.

Business, schools and organisations have been nominated for awards. The categories are; Small Business Award, Sole Trader Award, Single Shop Award, Large Business Award, Business Serving Whitworth from Close By, School Project Award, Group Activities Award and Voluntary Organisations Award. Cllr Royds said: “We wanted to recognise the vital role our local businesses and voluntary groups play in our community, so I decided as Mayor this year, I wanted to promote these groups and the name of Whitworth.“We have had a good response, receiving 239 nominations, many of these for the same people but we have in total 47 individual nominations, which I think is a great response.”

The event will take place on Saturday , starting at 7pm, with live musical entertainment and will honour businesses and members of the community who have excelled this year.A pie and peas supper will be served.Proceeds from the event will be split equally between the Mayor’s Charity fund and the Save Whitworth Pool campaign.Business SERVING WHITWORTH FROM CLOSE BY
