Business groups have hit out at an appeal to private sectors unions to secure a pay rise of four to six per cent for their workers, defending the wages already on offer and pointing to the challenging market conditions facing small firms.

Business groups have criticized the Irish Congress of Trade Unions' call for private sector wage hikes of 4 to 6 percent. They argue that the proposed pay increases are unnecessary given the strength of the job market and wage growth.
