Residents and shoppers in Lincoln city centre argue that the city has “shot itself in the foot” by cancelling its historic Christmas Market.
“I think it needs to be spread out over a longer period of time and perhaps scaled down a bit,” she suggested. He labeled the council’s decision to cancel it “disgusting.” He added: “They don’t realise how much revenue it brings in, not just for the businesses at the top, but for the ones at the bottom of the hill as well. It’s stupid.”Adrian Toyne said he was divided with the cancellation: “I think Lincoln has lost out by not having it.
“It was a shame because it brings in lots of visitors to the city and obviously lots of revenue to the businesses at the top end of town, but it was too big. You just couldn’t move.” The White Hart Hotel could be the first city centre hotel with a swimming pool — right in the heart of historic Lincoln — alongside a spa and gym complex inside the Grade II listed building.
A separate bid for a retirement living complex by McCarthy Stone was retracted in May 2023, prompting Lincolnshire Co-Op to consider various residential uses for the plot, such as sale, rental, and student housing.
