The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday cheered the signing of a law that aims to strengthen and revive the country’s salt industry.In a statement, PCCI, the country’s largest business organization, said the newly signed Republic Act 11985 or the Philippine Salt Industry Development Act would help revive the “dying” local salt industry. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The PCCI chief said the new law is expected to not only attract more farmers and producers to return to salt farming and production but also generate new investments and new technologies to elevate the industry and make it more competitive. “We should aim for our country to become self-sufficient and minimize dependence on imports,” added Mangio.
