BONAVISTA, N.L. — Two men are facing charges after they allegedly attempted to steal an ATV and broke into a business in Bonavista on Wednesday, May 1.

Around 11 p.m., the Bonavista RCMP received a report that Rodney Harris, 54, and another man, whom police later identified as Jerry Pearce, 51, tried to steal an ATV parked on a residential property.Found a short distance away with suspected stolen property, the two men ran from police but were arrested after a brief foot chase, which ended with one of the officers using a conductive energy weapon.

The stolen property led police to determine that a break-in occurred at a community business earlier in the evening.Possession of property obtained by crime; andHarris faces extra charges of uttering threats against a person and two counts of breach of a release order, while Pearce faces an additional charge of resisting a peace officer.

Harris was remanded into custody and will appear in court again on May 3. Pearce was released by a judge on a number of conditions and is set to appear in court at a later date.
