Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has revealed that certain security personnel and government officials have turned the insecurity situation in Nigeria into profitable ventures. According to Governor Radda, the exploitation of insecurity for financial gain has contributed to the difficulty in bringing an end to banditry and other forms of insecurity in the country.
He stated that it has transformed into a lucrative business for criminals and individuals within government and security agencies. The governor's comments come amid a wave of attacks by criminal bands, locally referred to as bandits, targeting rural communities across Nigeria. His words: “Now it has turned out to be a business venture. A business venture for the criminals, some people who are in government; and some people who are in security outfits, and some people who are responsible for the day-to-day activities of their people. According to him, many youths in the north are recruited into banditry with mere N500.
